Whether it’s indoors or out, decorating your staircase with a garden is a unique and lively way to redesign your home. Not only are there various health benefits to adding more plant life into your home, but a garden staircase can also create a trendy, summer space that will update your staircase in an instant.
Not sure where to start? Read on to find out how you can decorate your home’s interior or exterior staircase with a garden this summer:
Exterior staircases
Small plant containers added to your outdoor stairwell can transform a boring staircase to an adorable, forest-like statement piece. Simply line one side of the stairs (preferably underneath the railing so as to not take up too much space on the treads) with potted plants. You should place a plant on every other or every third stair to ensure things don’t get overcrowded. If the stairs are up against a wall, then you can add vines that wind their way up the staircase. You can also place plants underneath your staircase, especially if it is an open riser and/or spiral staircase, if you don’t have any room on your walls or steps.
Interior staircases
Gardens don’t have to stay outside. While you may not be able to use the same plants as you would for your exterior staircases, your interior staircase can still be decorated with various indoor plants. Choose plants that don’t need direct sunlight and if you have pets, make sure they won’t be tempted to knock over the pots, or you’ll be in for a big mess. For interior staircases, place them underneath the stairs instead of on the steps to avoid anyone (human or animal) knocking over your pots.
