Custom floating stair stringer ready for pick up Close up of metal plate step Floating Stair system
The tri-frame stair here is completed and ready for pick up at our New York stair factory. The steel railing system was made in one piece, and the structure of the stair was made in one piece. The stringer was heavy, but easy enough for 2 people to load into the customer's pickup truck. Close up of our logo laser cut out of the under side of the top tread. The steel stair treads and stringer were painted a Classic Metallic Bronse color by Rustoleum. Single Stringer TRI-FRAME

This is the back view of the modern Tri-Frame stair. The customer installed the metal stucture on the subfloor and will put the finished floor in after the project is completed. The metal line railing system will also recieve a matching wooden handrail cap. This picture was taken during construction. The steel stair structure is perfect for the open and modern look that this client needed for their kitchen renovation. The Tri-Frame stair will allow an open view through the great room. Acadia Stairs fabricates unique artistic stairs that can be a showpiece for any home.
Stringers only Traditional Steel staircase Commercial round steel railing
This picture is of a pan-type stair with the steel stringers at the perimeter of the treads. The treads are flanged up in the back and down in the front for an open look. This stair can recieve almost any kind of railing system. This traditional steel staircase has the stringer channels at the perimeter of the treads. The railing on the open side has a classic steel molding top & simple square balusters. The wall hung railing has brackets welded to it and a level-off at the top and bottom. This railing is a more contemporary design that uses a round handrail instead of a molding profile. The level-off at the top and bottom are required in some commercial situations.
Simple steel stair with railings on both sides
Some commercial applications require both a gaurd rail at 42" high and a handrail (aka grab rail) between 34" to 36" high. If the sides of the stair are not near any walls, gaurd rails are requred on both sides. If the stair is wide, handrails are also required on both sides. The matching balcony rail is 42" high to match the guard rail on the staircase.
double stringer open riser stair painted grey double stringer stair image from back side
Open riser double stringer stair with flat-bar line rail. The treads have been protected with rosin paper until the house is ready for move-in. The steel posts have a machine bolt that attaches them to the back of the lower tread & to the nose of the tread above. This double stringer stair has pre-drilled smooth plate steel treads that are flanged down in the front and flanged up in the back. These tread plates receive a 1" thick wood tread cover. This is a 6" steel channel double stringer.
twin stringer with stainless steel cable railing
twin stringer switchback stair with stainless steel cable
Stainless steel handrail and posts pre-fitted with stainless steel cables. Oak treads and platform. Steel riser bars to reduce the riser spacing. 2"x6" steel tube double stringer (twin stringer). This is a very cost efficient, stable, safe and easy to install staircase. It was built and shipped knocked down to Hawaii. This twin stringer was fabricated in 6 parts: The upper 2 stringers, the landing structure, the support column and the bottom 2 stringers to the floor. The wood treads and platform are attached through the under side of the angle irons on the stringers. The railings are also made in sections for attachment to the treads. We thank BKA builders in Honolulu Hawaii for the exemplary installation of this stair.
modern railing black metal with white hand rail Modern black and white railing system
This is a wooden saw-tooth stair built by the client out of a Para-lam beam. We made the steel railings in black to fit the stair and well railings. This special design allows the stair to be wider than the opening, as the railing stops at the ceiling. Note that the white handrail on the one side is continuous all the way to the top. Square steel posts and flat bars are the body of this modern railing system. The top flatstock steel rail is pre-drilled with countersunk holes for the wood rail to attach from the under side.
Steel Sawtooth double stringer modern saw tooth staircase
This double stringer is made out of saw-tooth cut steel stringers. The staircase has steel plate treads with oak tread covers. The railing posts are double barstock steel with a rectangular metal top and pre-drilled for stainless steel cables. The saw tooth double stringer truly shows the geometry of the stair better than no other design. The black metal stringers stand in contrast to the walls, but the treads match the oak floors. The handrail is strong and simple. The stainless steel cables give light and clean look.
Monostringer with level-off
Monostringer with winder structure
Single Stringer winder treads

This shows the steel structure of a Sinlge Stringer stair with an L-Shaped layout. By pocketing the level-off stringer into a support in the wall, this stair does not need an exposed column under the landing.

Using the same in-wall support technique, this Single Stringer stair has a truly floating look, even with a 3 tread winder configuration. A close-up of oak winder treads for a modern center stringer stair. The long grain of the wood tread is perpendicular to the direction of travel for strength. The open riser single stringer can be set up for a 2 tread or 3 tread winder layout.
White center stringer stair
White Center stringer stair with wood steps

This single stringer is made of a 4"x6" steel tube with 1/4" wall. The 3/8" steel tread plates are pre-drilled with counter sunk holes to recieve the wood tread covers. The tread plates are supported by 4"x6" steel tube riser wedges that are welded to the center stringer. This stair has been powder coated white. Single Stringers are also known as mono-stringers or center stringers. They are typically open riser stairs with a very modern look. They have a very simple, modern look and are very easy to install. The 1 3/4" thick wood treads are routed under for the 3/8" thick steel tread plate.
