Smallest diameter recommended. Can serve as an alternative to using a ladder. The 42" diameter spiral stair takes up the least space and can still be navigated face-forward going down. This stair is a great way to add an architectural element to your space and stay on a lower budget. The 42" diameter spiral stair is what many people have come to know as 'The Spiral Stair' , but becuase of its tight feel, low cost and prevelance in small loft apartments, this stair has given a stigma to the whole spiral stair category. With enough practice this stair can be easy to use as any stair. Children often find small spiral stairs easier to use than adults, household pets may or may not be able to use this stair. |

The 21" clear step space and small foot print make this the perfect spiral staircase for small lofts, safe-rooms, wine cellars and other areas that are not living space. The 48" diameter spiral is very popular as a stair that is not required as a means of egress, but as an 3rd way to get to a living space or even as a secondary means to get to a storage area. The additional space on this spiral stair adds a great deal of comfort as opposed to the 3'-6" |

This is a very comfortable small sizesspiral stair. Most clients can go up half-way, turn around, and go down easily with very little experience or practice using a spiral staircase. The elbow room on this and any spiral stair can be much greater than the clear step space, as the elbow room is not limited by the handrail and the center pole. It is not uncommon to have a 4'-6" diameter stair be one of the favorite ways to get to an attic, basement or back stair to a kitchen. |

This is the most popular spiral stair size today. According to most building codes (IRC, BOCA, UBC etc.) spiral stairs must have at least 26" clear step space. These stairs can meet the MINUMUM required dimension for spiral stairs that serve as a secondary means of egress to a living space. All of our spiral stairs can be made to meet other components of code requirements (such as; head room, riser height, baluster spacing, etc.) but Acadia Stairs 60" diameter spiral stair is the smallest spiral staircase that will meet the 26" clear space requirement. This is a comfortable stair that gives enough clearance to bring a laundry basket, groceries, school books etc. up & down much more easily than smaller spiral staircases. In order to garauntee proper handrail clearance in tight stairwells, please make the finished opening 1.5" larger in radius (3" larger in diameter) or more. Please call one of our stair designers, we can often work out a 5'-0" diameter in tighter spaces, depending upon wall locations below. |

A very comfortable stair that most clients find to be very roomy. If your opening allows for a 66" diameter stair, then you will not be disapointed choosing this over a smaller staircase. These spiral stairs do not cost a great deal more than smaller kits, but often feel like it is giving a great more utility. This stair complies with & exceeds the minumum step space clearance for most code requirements. The 30" clear step space is great for carrying larger, bulky items up & down stairs. |

The 72" diameter stair is an excellent choice for a spiral stair as a secondary means of egress. Some clients prefer to use this stair, even if the primary staircase is just down the hall. It is easy to navigate and can be designed to have lower riser heights than smaller diameter spiral stairs. The 6'-0" diameter stair normally only has an outer handrail at 36" high, but it may be fabricated with an outer guardrail that is 42" high and sub-line handrail (at 33" radius) at 36" high and still give plenty of step width to meet the minumum code requirements. This is the largest of the small spiral stairs with a more spiral/winding feel than a curved/sweeping feel. |

Not a small spiral stair, the 78" circular staircase has a larger diamerer center pole and can be combined with a round metal inner handrail (at 8"+ radius). This spiral stair and its larger counterparts can all have outer guard rails handrail and sub-line handrails in concert with the inner handrail without severely impacting traffic. When outfitted with the outer handrail alone, this stair provides the full 36" clear that one might find on a traditional staircase. This is the smallest spiral stair that uses a 4.5" O.D. tread sleeve & 4" center column pole as a standard. |

An 84" diameter stair takes up a foot print that is similar to many medium sized helical or circular stairs. Many 7'-0" diameter spiral stairs do not have inner handrail and can allow two-way traffic simultaneously. Even with an inner handrail, this stair may allow 2-way traffic in some instances. |

A 90" diameter stair takes up a foot print that is similar to many medium sized helical or circular stairs. Many 7'-6" diameter spiral stairs do not have inner handrail, but even with an inner handrail and sub-line outer rail, this stair may allow 2-way traffic. |

The largest of the traditional spiral stair convention, the 96" diameter stair is a large, comfortable staircase. With an inner rail it feels every bit as comfortable as a curving or sweeping staircase. With the proper layout it can have riser heights that are less than 7" and still provide plenty of head clearance and tread run (at both the narrow edge and the outer perimeter). This spiral stair can be made with a standard 4.5" O.D. tread sleeve & 4" center pole, or even larger size center columns (*6"+) are available. |

These huge spiral staircases should be in a category all their own, but we put them here to let you know that we can make almost anything. The center columns are typically 6" or larger. Almost all of these stairs have an inner handrail. These stairs can be used as a primary means of egress given the proper layout. |
