Curved Single Stringers

With the most floating design of any custom staircase, our curved single stringers are among the most innovative and modern designs that we offer. Our curved single stringer staircases are one of several varieties of curved staircases.

Combining the elegance of a spiral staircase with the convenience of the straight staircase, curved single stringers have a spiral geometry without a center pole. Our curved stairs can rotate just a few degrees, or can rotate a full 360 degrees, depending upon the height and outer diameter. They can even be combined with straight staircases or spiral stairs.

The curved single stringer is the support structure under the treads, so it is often created out of very heavy and large profile structural steel. This creates a very strong and precisely fabricated system which is great for stability, but can cause the stair to become more difficult to ship. Although the stair is very heavy, it is fairly easy to install as long as you or your contractor have the ability to lift it into place. (The average curved single stringer will weigh between 600 to 900 lbs. before the treads and handrails are applied!)

Curved Single Stringer Stair FAQs

A curved single stringer staircase is a modern stair design that uses one central structural beam to support the treads while following a curved or helical path. This mono-stringer design creates an open, floating appearance while maintaining strong structural support. The curved shape adds visual flow and allows the staircase to become a focal architectural feature within a space.

The main difference is the structural support system. A single stringer curved stair uses one central steel beam rather than two side beams or exterior stringers. This design gives the staircase a more minimal, floating aesthetic while still providing the strength needed to support each tread and railing system.

Curved single stringer stairs can be paired with a variety of tread materials including hardwood, glass, stone, or metal. Popular railing options include cable railing, glass panel railing, or custom welded metal railings. These combinations enhance the modern look while maintaining safety and durability.

Yes. Despite their open appearance, curved mono-stringer staircases are engineered for strength and stability. The central steel stringer is designed to support the weight of the treads, railing system, and expected foot traffic while meeting applicable building codes for safety.

Absolutely. Curved single stringer staircases are typically custom fabricated to match the dimensions, radius, and style of the surrounding architecture. Homeowners can choose from a variety of materials, finishes, tread styles, and railing systems to create a staircase that complements the interior design of the home.
