5 Ways to Decorate Your Staircase

Your staircases serve a functional purpose, but that doesn’t mean they can’t look good while doing it. Staircases, admittedly, can be a bit difficult to design, so here are a few ideas to get you started.

Use lots of artwork5 Ways to Decorate Your Staircase

The walls along your staircase are perfect for hanging artwork. This could range from the drawing your child created to a renowned oil painting. Whatever it is you decide on will help liven up the space and ensure the walls don’t remain boring and empty.

Or one large piece of art

You don’t have to use a bunch of paintings, especially if your wall space doesn’t allow it. Instead, you could try using one, single piece, large enough to take up most of the wall. You could use anything, it doesn’t have to be a painting. Try a poster, or a hand-carved, wooden artwork.

Decorate the steps

It’s not as crazy as it sounds. The steps themselves should be a part of the design and painting them is a good way to make them pop. You could paint them alternating colors, or you could use wallpaper that coordinates with the colors in your room.

Or put down a stair runner

If painting or wallpapering your steps isn’t your style, you could always use a stair runner. It’s a quick and easy way to add some flair to your stairs, while also reducing the noise from people going up and down the stairs. Plus, they can make your stairs less slippery and thus safer.

Hang up some lighting

This can be fashionable and functional, as you want to be able to see where you’re going if you’re heading up or down your stairs during the night. You could either hang up a light fixture on the ceiling above your stairs, or you could hang up some sconces along the wall.
