Spook Up Your Staircase for Halloween

Halloween Decorations for StaircasesHalloween is right around the corner, and if you haven’t started to decorate for the holiday yet, now is the perfect time to start.

If you want your home to stand out for Halloween, consider decorating your interior and exterior staircases.

Whether you want to go all out and fill your staircases and railings with all kinds of ghosts and goblins or you want to take a simpler approach so that people don’t have trouble navigating your staircases to trick or treat, there are easy ways to spook up any staircase for the Halloween season.

Interior Staircase

If you have an interior staircase and you’re planning to host a Halloween party, you can go all out with this idea, courtesy of Martha Stewart.

  • The spook-tacular project involves covering your steps with lanterns, battery operated candles, distressed cheese cloth made to replicate spiderwebs, and caution tape to set the scene.

It’s a great way to keep people off the stairs during a Halloween party if you want them to remain downstairs, and it will look completely decorative when it all comes together. It doesn’t take a lot of time to set up and you might even have some of the items you need in your home!

Exterior Staircase

  • Purchase fake tombstones, which are sold at tons of different stores to stand up to outdoor weather, and place them strategically all along your staircase to turn your steps into an imaginary graveyard.
  • Scatter your jack o’ lanterns on the stairs, sprucing up the fake graveyard and adding some color into it.
  • Decorate the railings with outdoor lights in orange, green or purple to make decorations visible in the dark.

The great part about Halloween is that you can mix and match all kinds of different decorations—including everything from pumpkins to witches’ hats—and incorporate them into the design of your staircase. Let your imagination run wild and see what you can come up with.
