The Advantages of Powder Coating

There’s more than one way to paint a staircase, and powder coating has become a simple and affordable way of doing so. Made up of dry powder that’s sprayed onto a surface using an electrostatic gun, powder coating has become the painting process of choice for many homeowners. This is because of the many advantages that powder coating has over traditional paint.

Durability

The Advantages of Powder Coating

Normal paint looks great the moment you put it on, but over time that paint will degrade and chip, turning your previously stunning staircase into one that’s rusted and worn out. Most of this degradation is caused by the weather, or by everyday use. We can’t control these things, but we can control the type of material we use to paint our staircases. Powder coating is twice as thick as normal paint, meaning that it’s a far more durable type of painting solution. The process of powder coating also causes the powder to gel together, allowing for more flexibility.

Efficiency

Painting can be a chore, but that’s not the case with powder coating. Spraying on a coat of powder is relatively simple, making the process go smoothly and efficiently. There is also less waste with powder coating as there is with traditional paint. This is all thanks to the electrostatic gun which helps to gel (or cure) the dry powder together and allows you to spray on as much or as little powder as you would like.

Cost-effective

Thanks to its overall efficiency and ease of use, as well as its durability, powder coating is extremely cost-effective. Not only that, but the materials used to make powder coating are overall less expensive than wet paint. You can also control how many materials you use by controlling how much powder coating you use. Finally, powder coating can be saved to use for another day, preventing you from buying new powder later on.

Eco-friendly

All types of traditional paint contain at least some volatile organic compounds (VOC). VOCs are compounds that turn into vapors or gases and, in larger doses, can be hazardous to our health and the environment. Powder coating doesn’t contain any VOCs, reducing the amount of toxic chemicals that enter our environment. Additionally, since you can control how much powder coating you use, you will also have less waste.

Variety

When it comes to powder coating, you can have practically any color or finish that you desire. While there are common colors and finishes that most people use, you can also create your own unique blend in order to achieve the exact look that you want.

High-Quality

Some people fear that because powder coating is cost-effective and simple to use that you must have to sacrifice on quality. This couldn’t be further from the truth. Thanks to the curing process that’s a part of powder coating, you will achieve a durable and attractive coat at the end of it. You won’t have to worry about unevenness, running, or dripping (as you would with regular paint), and if there ever is a mistake, it can easily be corrected with sanding or refinishing.

Low maintenance

Powder coating is simple to put on, and it’s also simple to keep on. Once it’s dry, your coat will need very little maintenance. All that is required is the occasional cleaning, and that only needs to be done a few times per year. When it comes to cleaning, simply wiping it down with soapy water will prevent any dirt or debris from damaging the coat.
